Telescopic forklifts - a powerful choice with a strong arm
Find out everything you need to know about the most important stacker models, their application fields, and their advantages and disadvantages.
Profile: Outdoor use, unpaved areas, horizontal and vertical movable telescopic arm, lift height up to 30m, load capacity up to or above 20t, designed for use in construction, agriculture and industry.
Telescopic forklifts are characterized by their telescopic arm, which they use in place of a lifting mast. Because of this, they are also known as telescopic arm forklifts or telescopic loaders. While a lift mast is primarily designed to lift loads, and allows for only a very limited range of fork forward movement, the telescopic arm can be used to make horizontal and vertical movements in almost any direction. The telescopic arm is located at the center rear of the forklift, and can be lifted and lowered via hydraulic components like a crane. In addition, the telescopic arm is extendable, allowing it to reach almost any position within the working range of the telescopic forklift.
Telescopic forklifts with a rigid frame only allow for the described horizontal and vertical movements of the telescopic arm. A telescopic forklift with a semi-rigid frame can be tilted on its front axle and swiveled slightly to the side, further extending the radius of movement of the telescopic arm when the vehicle is at a standstill. Rotating telescopic forklifts, also known as rotator forklifts or rotator telescopic forklifts offer maximum mobility. In these devices, the entire superstructure can be swiveled via a slewing ring. Additional support systems are built in to ensure the vehicle remains stable and steady.
Thanks to their design, telescopic forklifts are able to lift over 20t up to 30m. Side support systems are integrated into the vehicle to ensure it does not tip over when the telescopic arm extends far enough to the side. Since these forklifts are usually used in outdoor areas and on uneven ground, telescopic loaders are excellent for all-terrain use, and have large tires with thick tread. Often, telescopic forklifts are equipped with all-wheel drive and have variable operating modes. Quick trips from one location to another can be handled with front axle steering. Speeds of up to 50km/h are no problem. Select a synchronous steering system for a tight turning radius. With this kind of steering, both axles have an equal, opposite wheel angle. For very narrow spaces, choose crab steering, in which all wheels can be set to the same wheel angle so that the vehicle can move in any direction, including sideways or diagonally.
The telescopic arm is equipped with forks, but can also be fitted with a wide range of other attachments. Commonly used attachments on telescopic arm forklifts include crane booms, crane hooks, bale grabs, winches, augers, shovels, or work baskets.
You can purchased or rent used telescopic forklifts from Supralift from a variety of manufacturers, such as Manitou, Merlo, Caterpillar, Dieci, Sennebogen or JCB.
