The engines of gas forklift trucks are powered by liquefied gas and are very quiet. Emissions are also low, which makes them suitable for indoor use as well.
A gas cylinder at the rear of the forklift supplies the engine with fuel gas. The cylinders can be changed quickly and easily, which is a major advantage compared with the relatively long battery charging times of a used electric forklift. Especially in shift-based operations, the fast and uninterrupted availability of the forklifts in use is very important in order to avoid waiting times and bottlenecks at individual stations.
LPG forklifts are economical in consumption, and the energy density of a full gas cylinder is also higher than that of a fully charged battery. Gas-powered forklifts therefore have significantly longer operating times than electrically powered vehicles before a gas cylinder or battery needs to be changed. The required gas cylinders are usually obtained through corresponding quota contracts with specialised companies.
