Used reach trucks are mostly used in large warehouses where especially long and bulky loads need to be moved. Their key feature is the reach mast: the mast and forks can extend out of the chassis to pick up the goods and are then pulled back towards the truck. This clearly distinguishes reach trucks from used pallet stackers, where the mast cannot be extended forwards.
Because of the extendable mast, reach trucks need a relatively small counterweight and can lift the goods very high. Lift heights of more than ten metres are possible. The operator often sits sideways to the direction of travel, which is ideal for manoeuvring in narrow aisles and for handling long, bulky goods.
The typical application is the warehouse, meaning indoor use. Due to their low emissions, electric forklift trucks are mainly used here. However, reach trucks with diesel drive are also available.
