Pickers - stackers for people and goods
Profile: Indoor use, high-bay shelving warehouse, electric drive, lifting both the driver and goods to working height, load capacity up to 2.5t and lift heights up to 14.5m.
Pickers are devices that can lift both pallets and goods, as well as the driver’s platform itself. This allows the driver to pick goods directly at the shelf because they are lifted up to them; this is particularly important in the age of online shopping. Pickers allow warehouse clerks to move directly to the needed areas of the high-bay shelving system, assemble the customer's ordered goods there, then deliver them to shipping. This eliminates lost time to lift and lower pallets in order to remove individual items on the floor. Pickers are differentiated based on their lift height.
Low-lift order pickers
Low-lift order pickers are also called horizontal pickers, since they are only used on the bottom shelf row. This work could also be completed with a hand pallet trucks, but the advantage of an electric picker is that the driver can pick directly from the vehicle, without having to constantly get in and out. Some low-lift order pickers can also stack to the second row, up to around 2.5m.
Medium-lift order pickers
Medium-lift order pickers, also called vertical pickers, are used above the second shelf row, up to approx. 6.5m. They are also called man-up pickers, since they have a driver’s platform or driver’s seat that is lifted to the working height using the fork. Some models even have a load carrier the driver can walk onto, allowing them to handle bulky goods at the shelf. Since the driver can work at great heights, safety precautions are very important when using man-up order pickers. In addition to railings and cabin enclosures, fall protection is recommended to prevent serious accidents.
High-lift order pickers
High-lift order pickers lift goods and the driver up to a height of 14.5m. In many models, the fork and driver's area can be lifted independently of one another. There are models with rigid fork tines for manually loading and unloading, and models with swiveling, movable forks for mechanical storage and removal. Safety systems are essential, with lift heights equivalent to a 5 story building. High-lift order pickers generally have automatic assistance systems that throttle their speed and braking force depending on the lift height, ensuring stability when traveling around curves.
Order pickers are essential in the warehouse logistics field, and the trend is moving towards automated warehouse systems that require no driver at all, or only require the driver to control some processes.
At Supralift, you can buy or rent used order pickers from many manufacturers such as Jungheinrich, STILL, Linde or BT.
