Four-way stackers and side loaders - an agile choice for bulky goods
Find out everything you need to know about the most important stacker models, their application fields, and their advantages and disadvantages.
Profile: Indoor and outdoor use (depending on drive type), transportation of bulky, long goods, load capacity up to 6t, lift height up to 8m, small turning radius.
Side loaders are designed to transport long and bulky goods, such as pipes, paper rolls, rods, and timber. In contrast to a front loader, the fork is attached to the side. Goods are placed on a table, and can then be transported longitudinally in the direction of travel. Because of this, side loaders are also called cross stackers or lateral forklifts. The driver’s seat often rotates, so that the driver can look in the direction of travel or monitor the side forks during loading, depending on the current task. Similar to a reach truck, the lift mast is extendable. This means it can be extended in front of the table to pick up the load and then retracted again to place goods for transport on the table. Despite the long goods it transports, the side loader is only as wide as the vehicle itself as it moves, meaning it can be used in narrow warehouse aisles. Therefore, side loaders are also considered narrow-aisle trucks.
They can offer even better maneuverability if all four wheels can be swiveled by 90 degrees, allowing the vehicle to practically turn on the spot. This is then called a four-way side loader or four-way loader, and is much easier to operate in very narrow spaces than a traditional side loader. Four-way side loaders are available with a driver’s platform, driver’s stand or driver’s seat. These stacker types also have an extendable mast, so they are also called four-way reach trucks.
Side loaders are available with diesel or gas drive, or as electric side loaders, depending on their application. Tires must also be chosen to match the location where they will be used.
Supralift offers used side loaders, four-way loaders and narrow-aisle trucks from manufacturers like Combilift, Jumbo, Linde, Jungheinrich, STILL and BT. View available trucks here:
