The engines of gas forklift trucks are powered by liquefied gas and are very quiet. Emissions are also low, which makes them suitable for indoor use as well.
A gas cylinder at the rear of the forklift supplies the engine with fuel gas. The cylinders can be changed quickly and easily, which is a major advantage compared with the relatively long battery charging times of a used electric forklift. Especially in shift-based operations, the fast and uninterrupted availability of the forklifts in use is very important in order to avoid waiting times and bottlenecks at individual stations.
LPG forklifts are economical in consumption, and the energy density of a full gas cylinder is also higher than that of a fully charged battery. Gas-powered forklifts therefore have significantly longer operating times than electrically powered vehicles before a gas cylinder or battery needs to be changed. The required gas cylinders are usually obtained through corresponding quota contracts with specialised companies.
Thanks to their permitted use in warehouses and the wide selection of chassis variants – from very compact models for transport in narrow racking aisles to off-road models with closed cabins for outdoor use – gas-powered forklifts are ideally suited to many areas of application.
At Supralift you will find used gas forklift trucks from brands such as Jungheinrich, Linde, STILL, Toyota, Hyster, Clark and many more.

Gas forklifts are used mainly in industry, logistics, warehousing and trade. They are particularly suitable for businesses where forklifts are used both indoors and outdoors. Buying a used gas forklift can be an economical alternative to a new vehicle and also offers the advantage of short refuelling times.
VERSATILE USE
Gas forklifts can be used both outdoors and – with sufficient ventilation – in many indoor areas. This makes them particularly suitable for businesses with changing operating locations.
LOW DOWNTIMES
Changing a gas cylinder takes only a short time. Gas forklifts can therefore also be used in shift operation with almost no longer interruptions.
LOW EMISSIONS
Gas forklifts generally produce less soot and fine particulate matter than diesel forklifts and also usually operate more quietly. This makes them easier to use in areas where diesel forklifts are less suitable.
HIGH PERFORMANCE
Gas forklifts offer high performance and are also suitable for demanding transport tasks. They therefore combine the performance of a combustion engine with greater flexibility at the place of use.
EMISSIONS and VENTILATION
Gas forklifts produce exhaust gases such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide during combustion. Sufficient ventilation is therefore required when used indoors.
LIMITATIONS in ENCLOSED SPACES
Gas forklifts can be used both indoors and outdoors, but they are only suitable to a limited extent for small, poorly ventilated or particularly emissions-sensitive areas. Electric forklifts often have advantages here.
FUEL and MAINTENANCE COSTS
In addition to the costs for liquefied gas, regular maintenance work is required on the combustion engine. The maintenance effort is therefore usually higher than with an electric forklift.
STORAGE of GAS CYLINDERS
For operation, gas cylinders must be provided, changed and stored safely. Storage is subject to special safety requirements and requires a suitable, well-ventilated area.
CONCLUSION
Gas forklifts are versatile and are particularly suitable for businesses where the forklift is used both indoors and outdoors.
For mainly outdoor use, a diesel forklift may be the better choice.
If the forklift is mainly used indoors and low emissions are a priority, an electric forklift is often recommended.

ELECTRIC FORKLIFTS
Electric forklifts operate locally without emissions and are significantly quieter than gas forklifts. This makes them particularly well suited for use in enclosed spaces and warehouses. Electric motors usually require less maintenance, and the ongoing costs for liquefied gas are also eliminated. However, electric forklifts can be more expensive to buy. During battery charging times, electric forklifts are not ready for use. A gas forklift can continue operating after a short time once the gas cylinder has been changed.

DIESEL FORKLIFTS
Diesel forklifts are particularly powerful and are well suited for heavy loads and continuous outdoor use. They can be refuelled quickly and are very durable even during long work assignments. Gas forklifts, on the other hand, can be used more flexibly because they can also be used in many indoor areas.

PETROL and HYBRID FORKLIFTS
Petrol engines play hardly any role in forklifts today and have been replaced in many areas of use by gas, diesel or electric drives. Hybrid forklifts combine a combustion engine with an electric motor. This can reduce fuel consumption, exhaust emissions and noise levels compared with purely combustion-engine forklifts.
