4-wheel forklift trucks essentially refer to classic counterbalanced forklifts. Many other forklift trucks also have 4 wheels, but they are usually named according to their specific field of use, for example rough terrain forklift trucks, container handlers or telehandlers.

Depending on the application, the load and the size of the goods to be transported, 4-wheel counterbalanced forklifts can be more suitable than 3-wheel variants. The weight is distributed better over four wheels on two axles, giving the trucks significantly greater stability. When maneuvering in narrow aisles, however, 4 wheels cannot match the very small turning circles of 3-wheel forklifts.

Solid rubber tires are therefore particularly suitable for concrete and other firm surfaces. Most commonly, four-wheel forklifts with diesel drive are used.
