Used telehandlers are characterized by the fact that the forks do not move up and down on a vertical mast, but can be moved relatively freely in space on a telescopic arm. For this reason, these vehicles are also called telescopic arm forklifts, telescopic loaders or simply telehandlers.
The telescopic arm enables lift heights of up to 30 m, and machines with a lifting capacity of up to 21 t are available. As they are preferably used in construction and agriculture, the vehicles are often equipped with four-wheel drive and diesel drive.
With rotor telehandlers, the cab can be rotated around its own axis together with the telescopic arm. This rotation increases the maneuverability of the vehicle during loading.
In addition to forks, many other attachments can be mounted on the telescopic arm, so use as a crane is possible, for example. This characteristic is also known from Reach Stackers, which can lift much heavier loads and are therefore intended for container handling.
